Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker runtime 'revealed', Yoda and Vader 'return'

The Skywalker saga is about to come to its epic conclusion.

The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams returns to pick up where Rian Johnson left off with The Last Jedi to bring the sequel trilogy of the Star Wars film series to a close.

The final battle between the Resistance and the First Order looks set to end at last, with Rey ( Daisy Ridley ) battling for the Light side of the Force, while Supreme Leader Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) works to control the entire Galaxy.

But with classic villain Emperor Palpatine ( Ian McDiarmid ) back in the mix, along with some mysterious new characters, just where will The Rise of Skywalker take the Star Wars franchise?

Well, it seems we now know just how long the film will be according to a revelation from the Jurassic Park panel for the Academy of Scoring Arts, where John Williams' brother Don made some revelations.

In the Scoring Arts panel video , Don Williams said: "Jon's started up with another Star Wars. We started our last week. He's got a 135 minutes worth of music to write. Okay, so that kind of tells you how long the film is [laughs]. It is top to bottom music. We've done four days. We just scratched the surface. I think we've got something like 34 minutes in the can at this point.

"But I can tell you that every theme that you ever heard is going to be compiled into this last effort. Every one. Leia. Yoda. The Phantom . Darth. All of it. It's going to be in there. And in his usual style, he hides them. You gotta go look for them. You'll find them, but you gotta go look for them.

"You'll be sitting there watching the film go by. 'Oop, there is it. There's two bars of it.' And it grabs you. It takes you away.

I find that happening a lot with this one while I am playing, which takes me away from what I am supposed to be doing, which is counting and coming in in the right place [laughs]."

So The Rise of Skywalker is 2 hours 15 minutes? Not as long as we might have expected for a series-ending film.

Additionally the Yoda and Darth Vader name drop is interesting, will these just be brief callbacks to the past or bigger appearances?

We wouldn't be surprised to see Yoda make a Force Ghost appearance alongside Luke Skywalker.

The little green Jedi Master did pop up in The Last Jedi after all.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is released in UK cinemas on December 19, 2019.
