Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker details revealed in Vanity Fair photo shoot

We now have even more details for The Rise of Skywalker after a glorious new editorial shoot.

Vanity Fair have done another stunning Star Wars photo shoot from iconic photographer Annie Leibovitz that shows off the cast of the new film, including both classic trilogy returnees and new additions.

The two covers display the representatives from both sides of the Force in the sequel trilogy, with Rey ( Daisy Ridley ) holding up the light, and new Supreme Leader Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) representing the dark.

Another beautiful image shows the pair fighting with their lightsabers in the rain.

Finn ( John Boyega ) features alongside new character and Resistance fighter Jannah (Naomie Ackie), while Poe Dameron ( Oscar Isaac ) sits with Rebel Alliance hero Lando Calrissian ( Billy Dee Williams ) in the Millennium Falcon, accompanied by Chewbacca (Joonas Suatomo) and droids BB-8 and new friend D-0.

We also see the villainous General Hux (Domnhall Gleeson) alongside fellow First Order leader Allegiant General Pryde, who is the confirmed role of Oscar-nominee Richard E. Grant.

Keri Russell's character is also revealed as the masked scoundrel Zorri Bliss, seen in the Thieves’ Quarter of the snow-dusted world Kijimi.

Behind the scenes images show director J.J. Abrams helming a scene with Kyo Ren's henchmen, the Knights of Ren, whilst also filming scenes with Rey and others with the other Resistance characters, including Anthony Daniels as C3-PO.

Most intriguingly, is an image of Mark Hamill as the late Luke Skywalker standing in flames with R2-D2.

Could he be the Skywalker to rise?

Check out the rest of the images at Vanity Fair here.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is released in UK cinemas on December 19, 2019.
