The beloved rebel Princess Leia may be about to depart the land of living Star Wars characters.
It has been known for a while that Carrie Fisher will reprise her role as General Leia Organa in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker via unused footage from previous films The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, and the character had an emotional appearance in the recently released trailer.
Now Poe Dameron actor Oscar Isaac has suggested that Leia Organa is no longer a key figure of the Resistance in their fight against the First Order in the film, prompting Poe to take on a key role.
Speaking to IGN about the Resistance, Isaac revealed: “Where we start in Episode 9 is, they’re decimated, there isn’t much of a Resistance to even lead, so I think what they’re trying to do is find allies, find anybody they can that can help them, help their cause - it just feels like it’s totally lost."
He added: "As the film goes on, I think you start to see him really grapple with not only the lack of leadership - I mean, Leia is gone - but also, how do you be a leader when there doesn’t seem to be anybody to lead?”

So while Poe is now a leading figure of the Resistance, which makes sense after the lessons in leadership he learned from Leia and Admiral Holdo (Laura Dern) in The Last Jedi, it seems that Leia is permanently out of the picture.
So could Leia have departed the land of the living?
The scene shown in the trailer featuring Fisher with Daisy Ridley's Rey is certainly emotionally charged.
Has Leia already passed on and having a spiritual moment with Rey after she's gone.
We will have to wait and see how Leia's story ends.
