Star Tribune columnist: Count on Cousins to be with Vikings through 2022

Kirk Cousins signed an extension this offseason, and despite a no-trade clause being omitted from the contract, Star Tribune columnist Michael Rand thinks it’s more likely that Cousins is here to stay.

Here’s what he said about the situation:

Rand said that the reality that seems most likely is that “the Vikings two years from now do what they did earlier this offseason: restructure Cousins’ deal with another medium-length extension. That, of course, becomes far more likely if Cousins performs well in 2020. And that, of course, is dependent in part on what exactly happens with the NFL season in general.”

Barring anything unexpected, Cousins will be here through the 2022 season, and after that? Well, we’re going to have to see. Cousins’ extension, despite drawing the ire of many Vikings fans, makes sense on a lot of levels. Here’s why.

Cousins is coming off a 2019 where he led the Vikings to a 10-6 regular-season record and a playoff victory. He threw for 3,603 yards, 26 touchdown passes and six interceptions this past season.
