Star Trek: William Shatner refuses to return as Captain Kirk

William Shatner has refused to reprise his famous Star Trek role.

In the wake of new shows Discovery and Patrick Stewart's Picard, some fans are wondering whether the actor would ever return as Captain James T Kirk in a new film or TV series.

Shatner, though, has been quick to dismiss any such notion on social media.

“No – I think Kirk’s story is pretty well played out at this point," he told an inquisitive fan on Twitter.

Shatner has made similar statements in the past and, once again, elaborated upon his reasons in a follow-up up message.

“What was any different about my statement on Kirk that I haven’t said before? I don’t do cameos (that one stretches back to 2008 & JJ). Kirk’s story is well told out of any other captain’s story. Kirk died in Generations. What is really left? Adventures in the ribbon?”

Earlier this week, Simon Pegg blamed the success of films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe for spoiling chances of a fourth Star Trek outing.

Star Trek: Discovery is available to watch on Netflix, while Picard is on Amazon Prime.
