Star-studded Welsh Fire team includes Kagiso Rabada, Kane Williamson and Liam Plunkett in mock The Hundred player draft

Kagiso Rabada, Kane Williamson and Liam Plunkett were included in a world-class Welsh Fire team for next years' The Hundred competition in a mock player draft.

The real player draft will take place on Sunday, with Sky Sports running it live from 7pm, in an unprecedented move in the history of the sport.

On Sunday, Welsh Fire will have to fill 12 places of their 15-player roster, having already filled the spot for their allocated England player — Jonny Bairstow — and two icon picks – Tom Banton and Colin Ingram.

However, in order for the public to have a better understanding of how the draft works, national journalists were invited to a mock draft and Welsh Fire ended up with a star-studded side which would likely rival any other domestic side in the world.

Proteas fast bowler, and No.3 white-ball bowler in the world, Rabada and Williamson, No.6 in the batting rankings, were the two most-expensive picks at £125,000 each.

Pakistan seamer Shaheen Afridi was next up, closely followed by World-Cup winning paceman Plunkett.

Other domestic stars such as Samit Patel, Laurie Evans and Joe Clarke were also picked up in the dummy draft.

The likely starting XI from that line up makes for terrific reading:

1. Jonny Bairstow (wk)

2. Tom Banton

3. Kane Williamson

4. Colin Ingram

5. Laurie Evans

6. Samit Patel

7. Joe Clarke

8. Kagiso Rabada

9. Liam Plunkett

10. Shaheen Afridi

11. Will Beer

Reserves: Joe Clarke, Matt Critchley, Ben Cox, Henry Brookes, Colin Ackermann

Welsh Fire are one of eight teams who will be competition in the inaugural The Hundred competition next year.

They have fourth pick in the real draft on Sunday and you can follow all the action with WalesOnline's live blog.
