THE SETTING
Within Sukhumvit 16 lies a haven for carnivores aptly named The U.S. Steakhouse. The restaurant is cozy and homey but it's not just the seating or the bar that contributes to this feel. DJ, the restaurant's owner and an F&B veteran who has worked in legendary hotels like The Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, makes sure each person that comes through the doors feels at home and enjoys their time. In other words, you're guaranteed to feel at ease and relaxed here, but you've also got to prepare yourselves -- steaks are coming.
THE MENU
If you hadn't already gleaned from its name, this resto prides itself in serving customers USDA Prime beef. The resto has actually been around for five years but have just changed their supplier of beef over the last five months, which means they're serving up a new product from the last few years. But we'll get to the steaks later.
The U.S. Steakhouse is open for lunch and dinner services with different menus for each. I got to try two dishes from the lunch menu. First was their classic Cheddar cheese bacon burger (B250++), which was a hefty burger that's layered up with delicious crispy bacon, veggies, and absolutely juicy beef patty that is such a delight to bite into. No wonder why beef is their main selling point. I then proceeded to go with their version of the legendary Philly cheese steak (B325), which is stuffed with luscious beef and topped off with cheese. Ironically, it doesn't look cheesy but your first bite will prove you wrong. Oh, and did I mention that these two are served with a side of legit thick and tasty fries and not just those thin, over-salted ones that we somehow have accepted are fries?
For their dinner menu, we started off easy with the Caesar's Salad for two (B330++) and yes, you can also order it for one. It's fresh and crunchy, thanks to the lettuce and the smattering of crispy bacon bits all around. Another you shouldn't miss it their signature Clam chowder (B240++), which doesn't get stingy with the clams but also gives you a good amount of potatoes in there. Either or both of these starters are a good prep for what's to come.

And now to the main event: the steaks. A lot of people make a big fuss about using imported products but it's rarely any different than local ones. However, the resto's boast of shipping their beef from the US chilled and not frozen does wonders for the beef. It's also commonplace to eat steaks -- or a sorry excuse of a steak -- all around the city that are very thin and not very tasty. That's not the case at The U.S. Steakhouse. Their 500g Ribeye (B1,770++) and 600g T-bone (B1,880++) are both a sight to behold when laid in front of you. The thick, succulent beef cooked to medium rare perfection is not only aesthetically appealing but juicy and tasty to the bite even if it's sans sauce. You also get your choice of side dish and sauce with every order of steak. Whatever you choose to go with will still partner great with your humongous steak. Oh, and if it's not that clear from the pictures, the size of these steaks are not like the steaks you eat at commercial joints. Plus, if you compare it with other places that serve up similar steaks, you actually get more value for your money what with size and taste that you get.
To top it all off, I ended the carnivorous feast with a Chocolate lava cake (B195++) served with a side of whipped cream and ice cream. The sweet, gooey centre is just utterly delightful and the dessert was a great ending to the meal.
INSIDER'S TIP
Despite being inside a soi, the resto does offer parking across the road at Shama Hotel. They can give you the parking voucher to give to the attendant once you leave. If you need a little help with what you'd like from the menu or you're just not sure what to get, don't be shy and ask DJ, the owner. He'll gladly help you out.
VALUE & VERDICT
The U.S. Steakhouse serves steak unlike many other restos here in Bangkok. Plus, there's the added accommodating feel thanks to its welcoming owner. If you've got a craving for beef, this is definitely the place to be.
