Star Shaped Festival in Newcastle blasts back to the Britpop era this Saturday

The summer festival of Britpop is making a return to Newcastle this Saturday with a seven act line-up a DJ after-show party to follow.

The 02 Academy is going all-out to embrace an all-day and evening celebration of the memorable nineties music movement as it welcomes the Star Shaped Festival 2019.

On the programme will be indie and alt rockers including Liverpool favourites Cast, Dodgy and Space plus Geneva - reforming especially for the festival - and Salad.

Also taking to the stage will be Mark Morriss of The Bluetones and Chris Helme of The Seahorses.

The festival, now in its fourth year, is an all-day marathon of live music with resident DJs adding to the mix with party sets before, between and after the band performances.

Newcastle is one of four locations on its 2019 circuit and a spokesman said: "This is not your standard festival.

"There are no tents; no overpriced food; no need to fund a whole weekend's worth of drinking, just one perfect day/night.

"No being miles away from the bands, watching them on a little screen and having the sound blown around everywhere; just great a venue, great bands, great atmosphere, and great DJs."

The festival, which will include plenty of visuals, will get under way in Newcastle at 1pm and will be followed by the after-show party from around 11pm.
