Star's future uncertain as Nottingham Forest ponder key January deals

Hughton unsure on Grosicki

Boss Chris Hughton has given little away about Nottingham Forest’s chance of revisiting a move for Kamil Grosicki in January.

The Reds failed in their bid to sign the West Bromwich Albion winger on loan in the summer, with an arbitration hearing ruling against the club following a dispute about whether paperwork was submitted in time.

Grosicki himself has hinted he is keen for more regular game time, which could mean a move away from The Hawthorns as he has featured just once for the Baggies this season.

Despite his team struggling at the bottom end of the table, one point above the relegation zone, Hughton is planning only minor tweaks to his squad when the transfer window opens.

Asked if that could involve going back in for Grosicki, he told NottinghamshireLive after his team’s 2-1 defeat at Norwich City: “Possibly. But I must admit, I don’t know. I don’t know if any of the circumstances have changed with him.

“Obviously it didn’t happen last time.

“At this moment, I honestly couldn’t tell you.”

GARIBALDI RED: Should Forest really be concerned about the threat of relegation?

Byrne speaks

In-demand Jack Byrne says he is not just looking at clubs in England for his next potential destination as the race to sign the Shamrock Rovers star intensifies.

Reports in Cyprus claimed Nottingham Forest and APOEL were both in the hunt to sign the midfielder who has produced a string of wonderful performances.

But Byrne says he has still not ruled out the option of staying at Shamrock, but it looks increasingly likely he will be lured away from Ireland with a number of clubs interested in his signature.

And in an interview with the Independent, it is not just clubs in England who are catching his eye.

“I am still not ruling out Shamrock Rovers. I have spoken to the club and the manager. I have told him that they will be in my mind when I am making the decision,” said Byrne.

Winger future undecided

Boss Chris Hughton says Nottingham Forest have yet to make a decision about Anthony Knockaert’s future beyond January.

The winger’s loan spell from Fulham runs out next month, although the Reds do have an option to buy and make his move a permanent one.

Knockaert found the net for Forest at Norwich City to end a run of five games without a goal, but it wasn’t enough to earn a positive result as the hosts triumphed 2-1.

It was the first time the 29-year-old had scored in the Garibaldi, in his 11th appearance for the club, following his summer switch.

But Hughton says what will happen when the transfer window opens remains uncertain, as he continues to plan only minor tweaks to his squad.

“At this moment we haven’t made any decisions about January,” he told NottinghamshireLive.

“We know we have got a lot of players who came in in the summer.

“We will look if we can, to tweak a little bit."

Fans want Johnson return in January

Brennan Johnson produced another super show for Lincoln City on Tuesday night - and Nottingham Forest fans want him back to help ignite their season.

The Welsh international played a starring role in the Imps' victory over Shrewsbury with his contribution for the third goal underlining the quality he has shown at Sincil Bank this term.

Having won the ball back with a terrific tackle, he receives possession and charges up field which leads to Lincoln's third goal in their 4-1 win.

It was a reminder of the young midfielder's talent and with Forest struggling in the Championship, fans on Twitter are now eager to see him back in the Garibaldi Red.
