A star from the Leeds United film The Damned United has died.
Maurice Roëves played one of Brian Clough’s trusted coaches Jimmy Gordon in the 2009 film. The 83-year-old was also known for his roles in Doctor Who, EastEnders and River City.
In The Damned United, based on David Peace’s book, Maurice’s character was assistant manager to Brian Clough during the manager’s disastrous 44-day tenure managing Leeds United. Clough was portrayed by Michael Sheen.
The film, based on real events, highlights the contrast between Brian Clough’s success with Derby County and nightmare at Elland Road.
Acting agent Lovett Logan confirmed the death of Maurice Roëves on social media on Wednesday.
The statement read: "It is with great sadness that we can confirm the passing of our wonderful client Maurice Roëves.
"We will miss him hugely and all our love goes to Vanessa and family."
He was born in Sunderland but Maurice spent his early days growing up in Scotland's Glasgow. The actor’s cause of death has not been made public at the moment.
Soap fans will remember Maurice as Geoff, the alcoholic father of Kate Morton, played Jill Halfpenny, in EastEnders.
While, he also appeared in The Last of The Mohicans, Judge Dredd and Macbeth. Tributes have been paid to Maurice across social media.
