Star mare Enable to be kept in training in 2020 with aim of another bid for historic third Arc

Star mare Enable will be kept in training for the 2020 season, her owner Prince Khalid Abdullah has confirmed.

Enable was denied an historic third successive win in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe when she finished second to Waldgeist at Paris Longchamp earlier this month.

Though no firm decision had been made about her future prior to that race, an emotional Frankie Dettori had acknowledged that her previous run in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks could have been her last in Britain, and many presumed retirement would be on the cards at the end of this season.

However, in news that will come as a huge boost to racing fans, Prince Khalid has announced that she will return to trainer John Gosden to race on as a six-year-old, with the long-term aim of having another crack at becoming the first horse to win three Arcs.

Sent off an odds-on favourite, Enable was outstayed by Waldgeist in Paris

“Prince Khalid has decided to keep Enable in training for 2020,” Juddmonte Farms wrote on Twitter. “She has come out of the Arc in good form and will not race again this year.

“Her racing programme will be determined entirely on her wellbeing, with the Arc a target.”
