Sydney's AFLW campaign has suffered a major blow with star ruck Ally Morphett ruled out for the rest of the season with a hand injury.

The 19-year-old has been a standout in the competition, leading the league with 205 hitouts to Western Bulldogs player Alice Edmonds' 180.

The Swans confirmed Morphett fractured her hand in the club's last-round defeat to Hawthorn on Thursday.

Morphett sustained the injury in the fourth quarter with scans confirming a fracture to her scaphoid bone near the wrist.

"We really feel for Ally. She has worked incredibly hard to become one the premier rucks in the competition and has been an integral part of our team this year," Swans AFLW general manager Kate Mahony said.

"We know she will work tirelessly behind the scenes to support the playing group in their remaining matches and we will work with Ally to ensure she has the support she needs.

"We have full faith in the players who will fill the void for our upcoming games."
