Stapleford woman jumped over fence and ran from police in her nightie after being pulled over by cops

A police dog unit was called in to help track down a Stapleford woman when she tried to escape after being stopped by officers.

Mia McShane was found hiding in a nearby undergrowth after running off.

She pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath, having been pulled over in her car in Ilkeston  on October 31, Derbyshire Live reports.

Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court  heard how police saw the 20 year old driving down East Street with no headlights on at around 1.30am.

They signalled for her to pull over but she carried on driving.

She eventually came to a stop and approached the officer’s vehicle wearing no shoes.

She had been driving without shoes and wearing a nightie at the time of the incident.

McShane, of New Eaton Road, Stapleford, informed them she had got into an argument with her boyfriend before running off in the direction of East Street.

She jumped over a fence which led to a park and a wooded area.

Sniffed out by police dog

Ben Payne, prosecuting, revealed how police called a dog unit to help track down the defendant.

She was found hiding in a nearby undergrowth.

McShane was taken to custody where officers stated she became angry and started shouting. She failed to provide a sample back at the police station.

Nick Wright, mitigating, said the defendant accepts that she is guilty.

He went on to say that McShane has had a “rough few years” and the offence “looks worse than it is”.

He said: “She got out of her car dressed in a nightie and barefoot and walked towards the police car which tells you something.

Very upset with life

“She is 20-years-old and has had a rough few years. She was very upset on the night in question.

“We heard how she was at the police station. She was in a very small room with the police officer.

“She was extremely upset with life events over the last four years.

“It’s just a shame she is before court for the second time. It looks worse than it is.”

McShane was handed a 12-month community order, 150 hours of unpaid work, disqualified from driving for 20 months and ordered to pay £175 in court costs.
