Stapleford fire service held up by parked car as owner 'nipped to the shop'

The fire service has spoken out about responsible parking after a crew was held up by a motorist who had "nipped to the shop."

Stapleford Fire Station said its engine had been delayed by some 15 minutes while it waited for the owner of the vehicle to return.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has previously warned if its vehicles cannot get down streets, it may put people's lives in danger when they are on their way to an emergency.

A spokesperson for the service said: "We know parking can be a challenge.

"Our team were delayed by 15 minutes while we waited for this driver who had 'nipped to the shop'.

"Before you park, ask yourself, could a fire engine get through? If the answer is no, then park somewhere else."

Stapleford Fire Station added: "Thankfully, we weren't on an emergency call this time."
