Stanwell fire: Police probe fatal house blaze yards from Heathrow Airport

Police are investigating a fatal house fire yards from Heathrow Airport.

The blaze happened in Stanwell, a village next to the airport, just before noon on Sunday.

A person, who has not been named, was found dead on the top floor of the property.

Surrey Police said in a statement: “Emergency crews were called just before midday today and, on arrival, the property was already well alight.

“The fire caused substantial damage to the house, along with some damage to the neighbouring properties, which made searching the upstairs of the property difficult. Sadly, when Surrey Fire and Rescue officers were able to access the upper floor of the house a body was found. The next of kin have been informed.”

The cause of the fire remains unknown, with police appealing for people with footage of the incident to come forward to officers.

The force also urged people not to share footage on social media. It said: “We are aware that individuals locally were filming the fire and the actions of the emergency services. We would ask that the public consider the feeling of those who knew the deceased before sharing footage on social media.”

Stanwell is the same village in which a 19-year-old man was stabbed in a “terrorist incident” last month.
