Stanwell crash: Three killed in collision between lorry and car near Heathrow airport

Three people died in a crash involving a lorry and a car near Heathrow airport on New Year’s Eve.

The victims, a 20-year-old woman and two men aged 23 and 25, were travelling in a Toyota Yaris, which collided with a Mercedes HGV in Stanwell, Surrey, at around 11.39pm.

Emergency services arrived at the scene to find the lorry had left the road and plunged into Longford River, which runs along the southern perimeter of the airport.

The driver was taken to hospital as a precaution and was not arrested.

Surrey Police said the three victims died at the scene at the junction of Bedfont Road and Long Lane.

A 25-year-old woman, who was also in the Yaris, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Sergeant Chris Schultze from the Surrey and Sussex Roads Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved in this collision at what is an extremely difficult time.

“We are continuing to appeal for witnesses to what happened and would urge anyone who may have any video footage, CCTV or dashcam or any other kind, to get in touch with us.”

The road remained closed on New Year’s Day while the HGV was recovered from the river.

In Walsall, west Midlands, a 37-year-old man died after a BMW crashed into a tree just minutes into the new year.
