Stansted Airport strikes suspended this weekend as staff vote on new deal

Passengers flying on easyJet from London Stansted this weekend can breathe a sigh of relief after strikes meant to begin from tomorrow have been called off.

Staff involved in the strike have instead been given the weekend to vote on a new deal.

The dispute involves passenger service agents employed by Stobart Aviation Services Limited, which has the easyJet contract at the Essex airport.

Some 43 staff members who work on the easyJet check-in desk are employed by Stobart.

Unite said there would be a 17-day strike starting this month, but had already announced a planned walk-out on Thursday had been suspended, while staff vote on an improved pay offer.

Unite has now said all the strikes planned this weekend have been also suspended.

Unite regional officer Mark Barter said: “We had positive talks with the company today, under the auspices of  Acas, and the outcome was that a revised pay offer has been put on the table.

“To give our members the opportunity to consider and to ballot on this offer we have suspended the 72 hour strike that was due to start at 03.30 tomorrow (Friday) and to end at 03.29 on Monday (29 July). Our members will be working normally this weekend.

“Today’s new offer comes after our members had rejected a previous pay offer earlier this week. We won’t be revealing the details of the revised offer until our members have voted on it.”

Currently, there are also strikes planned from August 2nd to 5th, August 9th to 12th, August 16th to 19th and August 23rd to 27th.
