Stanningley Road closed for five hours after teenage girl suffers serious injuries

Police closed Stanningley Road for five hours yesterday evening (Monday) after a 15-year-old girl was seriously injured when she was hit by a van.

Officers were called to reports of a collision on the busy dual carriageway in west Leeds at around 4.20pm and arrived to find the teenager with serious injuries.

West Yorkshire Police cordoned off the road between Wyther Park Mount and Cockshott Lane as paramedics arrived at the scene, which led to long delays at rush hour.

The girl was taken hospital for treatment, although her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The driver of a white VW Caddy van stopped at the scene and has been spoken to by officers.

West Yorkshire Police continued to carry out enquiries throughout the evening and the road did not fully reopen until around 9.20pm.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or the circumstances leading up to it, particularly anyone with relevant dashcam footage, is asked to contact the Roads Policing Unit via 101 quoting reference 13190605534.
