Stanley the stork has gone missing from World of Wings Bird of Prey Centre in Cumbernauld

People have been asked to keep a look out for a white stork who has gone missing from his Cumbernauld base.

Stanley the Stork was mobbed by gulls near the World of Wings Birds of Prey Centre yesterday (Sunday) and was chased away.

The base has been to trace him since his disappearance and are now calling for help from the public to bring him home.

Stanley was last spotted flying east of the centre, but staff have been unable to trace him since.

An appeal from staff at the centre reads: "During a flying session earlier today, Stanley our Stork got mobbed by some gulls and got chased off. He was last seen flying in east of the centre. Unfortunately, we have not been able to pick up a signal from his radio telemetry in a while and due to the wind picking up he could travel quite a distance or have landed somewhere to shelter.

"Stanley is around the size of a heron, is mainly white in colour with a distinctive black stripe running from wingtip to wingtip. He also has a long, thin, pointed orange beak and long orange legs. He also has a tracker on his tail.

"If you spot Stanley please do not approach or feed him and contact the centre through Facebook or call 07546252615"

UPDATE: Stanley has been found safe and well! Thanks to everyone who shared the appeal.
