Stanley Kubrick's films are breathtaking for their fleshed-out plotlines and engaging characters, sure, but the interiors are equally as compelling (who can forget the Overlook Hotel and its austere hallways). It makes sense, then, that the acclaimed director's own estate is just as intriguing.
Now, someone has the chance to take over the property, as Abbots Mead, his Victorian, Hertfordshire home where he worked on 2001: A Space Odyssey and A Clockwork Orange, among others, has hit the market for £6,950 million (approximately $9.4 million)
He purchased the property in 1965 and lived there for 14 years, and its bones remain delightfully preserved. A focus on natural materials such as wood and marble, and ornate patterns, from floral curtains to Persian rugs, dominates the nine-bedroom property. It's one of the most interesting spins on the enduring French country style that we've seen.
