The 2022-23 college golf season is complete, which means it’s time to continue handing out postseason awards.
A pair of veteran teams took home the trophies from Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, where the championships were contested for a third and final time of a three-year deal. In the individual competitions, there were big come-from-behind victories on both sides, as well, including from one of the best college golfers in history.
However, when it comes to the Player of the Year conversation, there are two who played their way to the top, and they’ve been selected as the Golfweek 2022-23 Players of the Year.
Golfweek selects men’s and women’s All-America teams and honorable mention selections, as well as Players of the Year and Coaches of the Year.

Women's Player of the Year: Rose Zhang, Stanford
Is this really a surprise? Rose is the queen of college golf, capping her stellar career at Stanford with a come-from-behind victory to capture her second straight NCAA individual title. As a sophomore, she won eight times, including the Pac-12 Championship and NCAA Pullman Regional, and she had an NCAA record 68.81 scoring average, besting her 69.68 record from last season. She also won the ANNIKA Award for the second straight year. It’s also the second consecutive season she has been named Golfweek‘s Player of the Year.
Men's Player of the Year: Gordon Sargent, Vanderbilt
Gordon Sargent, the 2022 NCAA individual champion, had a special season, earning him Player of the Year honors. He won three times, coming at the East Lake Cup, John Hayt Invitational and Mason Rudolph Championship. In fact, his worst finish all year, outside of a T-40 at the NCAA Championship, was T-7. Sargent collected eight top-five finishes, maintaining the top spot in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings for the entirety of the season.
