Standards 'slipping' at Ayr care home after unannounced visit, South Ayrshire Council to be told

Standards have slipped at a council-run care home, members of South Ayrshire Council’s Leadership Panel will be told.

The Care Inspectorate made an unannounced visit to South Lodge Care Home, in Racecourse Road, Ayr, in June.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the well-being of residents and determine whether actions ordered after a 2019 inspection had been carried out.

Having been rated as ‘good’ in its support for people’s well-being two years ago, the service was downgraded to ‘adequate’.

The Ayrshire Post told in August how the home was graded ‘adequate’ across six key indicators following the inspection.

Twenty six people were living there at the time.

And although communal toilet and bathing/shower facilities are available on each floor, the scrutiny body recommended that en-suite toilet facilities were “needed” in the single occupancy rooms.

Other concerns were over the home’s ‘physical environment.’

Inspectors also asked staff to look at improving the recording of medical history in relation to Covid-19.

At the time Billy McClean, head of community health and care services, admitted that there were “some areas for improvement” and that a review over the provision of en-suite toilet facilities for single occupancy rooms would take place.

The report will go before South Ayrshire Council’s Leadership Panel on Tuesday.
