Standard to buy the Mail in $50 million deal

Mail order

The Standard is seeking to buy fledgling magazine Air Mail in a $50 million deal.

No, not the Evening Standard – though Spy has long been a fan of the Mail, set up five years ago by industry veteran and ex-Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter.

In fact, it's a US roofing company known as Standard Industries, whose co-CEOs, David and David, are seeking to diversify the business, according to a report by Semafor. Or maybe they're just desperate to own anything less dull than a roofing company.

Current investors RedBird are looking to sell their stake – perhaps they need a bit of extra cash to pay off the debts of the former Telegraph owners.
