Standard Sport will join the boycott of social media by English football and other sports this weekend to demonstrate our support for the campaign against online abuse.
All Standard Sport accounts will stop posting from 3pm on Friday, April 30 until 11.59pm on Monday, May 3.
The boycott was first announced by English football and has since been joined by bodies from cricket, rugby, tennis and other organisations across British sport to demand social media companies to do more to combat racism and discrimination online.
James Major, head of sport at the Evening Standard, said: “We stand against hate in sport and in solidarity with those who have suffered discrimination online.
“We, alongside many others, are calling for real change. No player should face racist, misogynistic or homophobic abuse.
“Social media companies, who benefit hugely from the engagement and traffic that football brings to their platforms, need to do more.
“The abuse must stop.”
Standard Sport reporters will join the boycott on their own personal social media accounts.
