Standard get Rangers Europa League boost as Belgian club announce fan attendance plan

Standard Liege will allow up to 7,000 fans to attend their European clash with Rangers - but no away supporters will be admitted.

The Ibrox club face their first Europa League group stage match on October 22 as they travel to Belgium to face Philippe Montanier's side.

All professional matches in the UK are currently being played behind closed doors but Steven Gerrard 's men will play in front of a crowd in Liege.

The hosts have announced that up to 7,000 fans will be permitted to attend, though the decision is subject to review by the local health authorities depending on the coronavirus situation.

Priority will be given to season ticket holders, who have until midnight on Sunday to secure their tickets.

There will then be a general sale if any briefs remain but Rangers fans have no chance of snapping them up.

Any tickets left over will be available exclusively for holders of the club's Red Card membership scheme.

The only way to register for that is to visit the stadium during opening hours or go through a recognised Standard Liege fan club.

That means unless any Rangers fans have flawless French or fantastic Flemish, as well as a Belgian address, they're not going to be able to get around the rules.
