Stanbridge Primary School staff member tests positive for coronavirus

An employee of a Downend primary school has tested positive for coronavirus.

Stanbridge Primary School, on Stanbridge Road, confirmed the news in a letter to parents yesterday (October 14).

The 413-pupil school wrote: "We have been advised that a member of our teaching staff has tested positive for Covid-19.

"We have followed Public Health England guidance and are working closely with South Gloucestershire Council's public health and education teams.

"In line with the guidance, we do not need to close any school bubbles as the positive case did not have symptoms until after 48 hours from when they were last in school.

"The school remains open, and providing your child remains well and shows no symptoms of Covid-19, they should continue to attend school as normal."

The statement added the safety of children and staff is the school's number one priority.

Recent weeks have seen many schools in and around Bristol confirm coronavirus cases, including Fairfield High School today, and Patchway Community School, Henbury Court Primary Academy and Yate Academy yesterday.

The exact number of pupils and staff in quarantine as a result of all the outbreaks is not known.

But at least 52 schools across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire have been affected.

You should book a Covid-19 test if your child has at least one of the following:

  • A high temperature - This means if they feel hot to touch on the chest or back. You do not need to measure their temperature.

  • A new continuous cough - This means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours. If your child usually has a cough, it may be worse than usual).

  • A loss or change to their sense of smell or taste - They've noticed they cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.

If your child does not have symptoms of coronavirus but has other cold-like symptoms, such as a runny nose, they do not need to be tested.

They and members of your household do not need to self-isolate.

In those circumstances, your child can attend school if fit to do so.
