Stan Kroenke told Arsenal have sealed bargain transfer amid Edu plan for Mikel Arteta

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has told Arsenal that they have secured a bargain transfer in Leandro Trossard - although he believes it will be a tough task for the new signing to get ahead of their current crop in the pecking order.

Trossard joined the Gunners from Brighton on a long-term contract last week to boost Mikel Arteta's options in the final third in the Premier League title race. He made his debut in Sunday's dramatic 3-2 win against Manchester United, coming off the bench before Eddie Nketiah scored a late winner.

The Belgium international even had a hand in the goal - which was Nketiah's second of the match - playing the ball down the line to Oleksandr Zinchenko who picked out the striker. Trossard was awarded a 7/10 in football.london's player ratings for his short cameo.

Trossard cost Arsenal an initial £21million from Brighton and while Hasselbaink warned that playing for a club the size of Arsenal is a different proposition, the former Chelsea striker believes the 28-year-old was a steal for Edu at that price.

Hasselbaink told Safe Betting Sites: “Playing for Brighton is a very different prospect to playing for Arsenal. He’s got (Gabriel) Martinelli and (Bukayo) Saka in front of him, as well as (Gabriel) Jesus and (Emile) Smith Rowe so we’ll see if he can handle that and make that left wing or right wing position his own.

"It’s a cheap buy in terms of where the market has gone in recent times.” Trossard is now pushing for a starting place in Friday's FA Cup fourth round tie away at Manchester City, perhaps at the expense of Martinelli.

Meanwhile, Edu is continuing his plan to beef up Arteta's squad for the Premier League run-in with a move for Real Valladolid full-back Ivan Fresneda having also signed centre-back Jakub Kiwior from Spezia with owner Stan Kroenke backing the Gunners in the transfer market.
