The pressure has increased on Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta following a goalless draw at home to Villarreal in the Europa League.
To put the result into context, the Gunners were trailing 2-1 from the first leg of their Europa League semi-final which meant a goal and a clean sheet would have set up an all-English final against Manchester United.
Arteta even named an attacking lineup at the Emirates Stadium with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe, Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, and Emile Smith Rowe all starting.
However, the closest Arsenal came to scoring was Aubameyang's efforts in either half which came back off the post.
With one last throw of the dice, Alexandre Lacazette, Willian, and Eddie Nketiah all came on in an attempt to find that one goal.
But to no avail, as the Gunners crashed out of Europe for another season.
And with the side sitting ninth in the Premier League table, it's almost certain that there will be no European football in the red half of north London next season.
As a result, Arteta is now the bookies' favourite to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job.
That's according to BetVictor who had the Spaniard as joint-favourite at 4/1 alongside Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson to be sacked in the coming days or weeks.
BetVictor - Next Premier League Manager to leave
Mikel Arteta: 4/1
Roy Hodgson: 4/1
Paul Heckingbottom: 6/1
Steve Bruce: 12/1
Scott Parker: 12/1
Brendan Rodgers: 12/1
Ralph Hassenhuttl: 12/1
Sam Allardyce: 12/1
Just like in November 2019 when Unai Emery was sacked, any decision to relieve Arteta of his duties would be made by the club's board and owner Stan Kroenke.
With that said, Arteta has already delivered his verdict on the possibility of being sacked.
Speaking after the goalless draw on Thursday night, the Gunners manager said he's well aware that he will come under scrutiny.
"I think everybody’s job is always in scrutiny," he admitted in a post-match press conference.
