Stan Kroenke issues statement on selling Arsenal amidst Daniel Ek takeover talk

Stan Kroenke has released a statement reiterating that he has no intention of selling Arsenal.

38-year-old Swedish billionaire Daniel Ek announced on Sunday via social media that he would be interested in buying the club if it was for sale.

Ek, the co-founder of music streaming platform Spotify, has a net worth of $4.4billion (£3.17billion) and sources involved in the proposed takeover have told football.london that the approach is ‘serious’, explaining that Ek ‘sees himself as the solution to the problem’ at Emirates Stadium right now.

It’s also understood that Ek made the initial approach to Arsenal legends Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira, who would be on the board in any potential deal.

Who Is Daniel Ek?

However, Kroenke has now issued a firm rebuttal to any rumours of a takeover insisting that he will not entertain any offer and his focus is on improving the competitiveness on the pitch.

Full statement from KSE:

In recent days we have noted media speculation regarding a potential takeover bid for Arsenal Football Club. We remain 100% committed to Arsenal and are not selling any stake in the Club. We have not received any offer and we will not entertain any offer.

Our ambition for Arsenal remains to compete to win the biggest trophies in the game and our focus remains on improving our competitiveness on the pitch to achieve this. Stan Kroenke and Josh Kroenke Kroenke, Sports & Entertainment

At a Fans' Forum last week, Josh Kroenke apologised to supporters for signing Arsenal up to the Super League and assured fans that KSE will cover the costs incurred by the Gunners decision to withdraw from the competition.

He also confirmed there are no plans to sell the club and told fans he 'wants to get back to London', saying 'we need to build a bridge, and we will'.

Arsenal face Villarreal in the first leg of their crucial Europa League semi-final on Thursday, with Mikel Arteta coming up against former Gunners head coach Unai Emery for the first time since the Spaniard was sacked in December 2019.
