Daniel Ek is reportedly set to have another go at taking over Arsenal with a renewed bid for the North London outfit, according to reports.
The Swedish billionaire has already had one offer knocked back by the Gunners’ current owners, the Kroenkes, last month - that offer thought to be in the region of £1.8bn.
Now, the Daily Mail report that the Spotify CEO is set to renew his efforts in buying the club with a second offer thought to be more than £2bn.
Apparently, club officials are waiting on the bid, with sources surrounding the businessman confirming that an offer is being readied by Ek.
However, the reports suggest that the Kroenkes resolve could be tested by an improved bid of an extra £300m on top of his original offer.
Backed by Gunners’ legends Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira, Ek lodged an offer for the Premier League giants last month, only to be told in no uncertain terms that the club was not for sale.
It remains to be seen whether a second bid would be accepted by Arsenal’s current owners but considering their previous stance, that seems unlikely.
The club’s current owners were insistent that no such offer was ever made though, a suggestion that was quickly refuted by Ek in a statement released on social media.
He also suggested that he remained open to purchasing Arsenal, who he has supported since a child, should the opportunity arise.
Ek said: “Inaccurate reports emerged today saying I have not made a bid for Arsenal Football Club.
“I think it’s important to correct the record - this week an offer was made to both Josh Kroenke and their bankers that included fan ownership, representation at the board and a golden share for supporters.
“They replied that they don’t need the money. I respect their decision but remain interested and available should that situation ever change.”
Ek’s second bid comes among an extremely hostile reception towards the Kroenkes from Gunners fans amid their plans to take Arsenal into the European Super League, as well as their general running of the North London club after assuming full control in 2018.
The Spotify mogul has previously admitted that he knew any purchase of the club would not be done quickly.
He said: "I'm prepared that this could be a long journey.
"All I can do is prepare, what I think is a very thoughtful offer and bring it to them and hope they hear me out."
