Stan Kroenke's $500m decision that could be bad news for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta

Arsenal's transfer plans ahead of the next transfer window could be set to be dealt a major blow as Gunners owner Stan Kroenke is in need of $500million to help finance the Los Angeles Rams' stadium.

The Rams, who are an American football team, play their home games at the SoFi Stadium and according to a report by The Athletic they have requested a sum of $500million in additional NFL stadium financing.

As well as that, the Rams have also asked for double the amount of time to be able to pay the money back, suggesting that it could prove to be a problem for both the Rams and Kroenke, who, of course, has the task of catering for both Arsenal and the Rams' needs.

Their request is poised to be discussed at next week's virtual owners meeting.

This new request comes in addition to the $400million the Rams have already borrowed from the league's stadium lending programme. To make matters even more interesting, the Rams want to pay all of the money back over a period of 30 years, which is double the amount of time a club would usually pay the money back.

The stadium, which is planning to open its doors in July, has so far struggled to have the impact it was supposed to, as it has seen cost overruns and ticket sales have been far slower than club bosses had anticipated.

The stadium, which will be shared between the Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, was priced at $2.2billion when owners approved the Rams' Inglewood proposal in January 2016.

However, the price tag of the stadium has since rocketed to somewhere in the region of $5billion to $6billion, as the stadium even has its very own entertainment and retail district, meaning it offers far more than being just a home for the two Los Angeles clubs.

NFL owners will vote next week to increase the borrowing limit for all clubs in the NFL from $350million to $500million, as the prospect of stadiums being filled anytime soon because of the coronavirus pandemic are slim.

Should a vote for borrowing time to be extended be passed, that could be good news for Arsenal and Kroenke, as it will free up more finances and time for the Gunners owner to splash out some cash on bolstering the Gunners' squad, with head coach Mikel Arteta desperate to upgrade his squad at the Emirates Stadium in the next transfer window.
