Stan Kirsch dead: Friends and Highlander actor dies, aged 51

The actor who played Monica Gellar’s boyfriend in the first series of Friends has died at the age of 51.

Stan Kirsch, who also starred in the TV series Highlander, was found dead at his Los Angeles home over the weekend.

US website TMZ reports that Kirsch’s wife, Kristyn Green, found him and contacted emergency services. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Green posted about Kirsch’s death on social media, writing: "I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support.

“I haven't been able to respond to all the texts, calls, emails -- but have read or listened to every single one of them. I feel surrounded by love and am forever grateful to each and every one of you."

Kirsch played Richie Ryan in Highlander from 1992 to 1998.

His Friends appears came midway through his Highlander stint, in 1995, when he played a boyfriend who lie to Monica about his age.

A tribute was posted on the official Highlander page, which read: “It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Stan Kirsch.

“Without Stan Kirsch, Highlander: The Series would have been far less. He brought a sense of humour, kindness and youthful enthusiasm to the character of Richie Ryan for six seasons.”
