Former Nottingham Forest striker Stan Collymore has suggested substantial action be taken in Europe’s top competitions amid growing concerns over the coronavirus outbreak.
Sport across England and the world is being affected by the virus, with Reds owner Evangelos Marinakis being diagnosed with the illness earlier this week.
Marinakis was in attendance at Forest’s Championship clash against Millwall last Friday night, but the Reds have confirmed that every member of the club’s staff and squad have been tested for coronavirus, with all of them testing negative.
Manchester City’s Premier League match against Arsenal was postponed on Wednesday, while matches across Europe are behind played behind closed doors.
In the Champions League and Europa League, knockout ties are being played in empty stadiums this week, and Collymore reckons both competitions should be cancelled.
Collymore, who scored 45 goals in 78 appearances for the Reds before signing for Liverpool in 1995, believes the domestic leagues should finish now and have the final standings as they currently look.
“Cancel Champions League and Europa League,” tweeted Collymore.
“All domestic leagues final positions as they are today (teams that have played 1 or 2 games less get to fulfil fixtures behind closed doors). Thorts?”
Forest are currently in fifth place in the Sky Bet Championship table, with Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion occupying the automatic promotion spots.
