Stan Collymore makes major plea to Nottingham Forest supporters

Nottingham Forest legend Stan Collymore has backed a campaign to save the biggest youth football club in the country, calling on Nottingham Forest supporters to play their part.

West Bridgford Colts, who have 111 teams on their books, face the very real prospect of being made homeless under plans from Nottinghamshire County Council to build new homes.

Regatta Way has been earmarked in the Greater Nottingham Strategic Growth Plan as one of a number of possible locations across the area which could be used for housing and schools, but in doing so, would see over a thousand players without somewhere to play.

Reds legend Collymore, however, has joined the growing number of people to back plans to save the land which also plays host to 90-year-old Gedling and Sherwood Cricket club and provides under-fives to adults with 80,000 hours of sporting opportunities each year, before pleading with the local authority to step in and help.

“Trickies everywhere, I need YOU,” he wrote to his almost 900,000 followers on Twitter.

“West Bridgford Colts is the largest youth football club in the UK! 111 teams, 1,400 players.

“Their 22 acre ground is at risk due to developers.

“Let's keep these kids playing near The CG.

“@NottsCC, help them!”
