Stan Collymore gives one reason why Manchester United can finish in top four after Liverpool FC draw

Former Premier League striker Stan Collymore has claimed that Manchester United can make the top four this season providing they can replicate Sunday's performance against Liverpool on a regular basis.

United drew 1-1 with Jurgen Klopp's side on Sunday, ending their 100 per cent start to the league campaign.

Having led 1-0 for most of the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men had reason to be disappointed at the full-time whistle with a point, despite many predicting they would be heavily beaten before kick-off.

It was a much-improved display from United having lost to Newcastle United prior to the international break.

Despite Sunday's improved display, Solskjaer's side still sit 14th in the Premier League table, seven points behind Chelsea who occupy fourth place.

Despite that, the erratic form of Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Chelsea means there is still hope of securing Champions League football.

That is the view of Collymore, who in his latest Mirror column, insisted that if Solskjaer's side can replicate Sunday's level of performance on a consistent basis, they could still finish in the top four.

The former Liverpool striker said: "Manchester United played on the front foot and looked cohesive in their 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Sunday

"And the most impressive thing about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men was the fact they maintained a high standard of discipline and tempo for 70 or 75 minutes.

"Tackles went in, they closed down spaces — it was a solid 8/10 performance and we’ve not been able to say that of them many times this season.

"So that performance has to be the flag in the sand for the campaign and if they play like that week in, week out they can finish in the top four.

"If not they will be sixth or seventh at least, and maybe even scraping into the top 10."
