'Stamp it out' - Former Tottenham man rips into Joel Matip challenge during Liverpool defeat

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara has ripped into Joel Matip for his challenge on Kelechi Iheanacho during Liverpool’s loss to Leicester City on Tuesday night.

Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes suffered a major dent after losing 1-0 at the King Power Stadium - despite having several chances to get on the scoresheet.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are now six points behind Manchester City, who have the chance to make that nine with a win at Brentford tonight.

Matip was booked in the opening five minutes of the match, but Leicester fans and players wanted a red shown after Iheanacho fell awkwardly following an aerial battle.

This sort of challenge is commonplace in English football, but O’Hara ‘hates’ it and wants it to be ‘stamped out’ by the authorities due to how dangerous it is.

“Matip should be off. I hate players that lean over and players go over the top, could break his neck, refs need to stamp it out,” O’Hara said.
