CHANDIGARH: Decks have been cleared to hand over 50.76 acres of land at Sarangpur institutional area to PGI for its satellite centre. The estate office of the UT administration has written to the surveyor of the engineering department to give possession of land on leasehold basis.
Although the PGI had deposited Rs 180 crore for the land and the subsequent amount last year, stamp duty issues had hindered further development. “All payments were cleared but there was an issue from the sub-registrar office related to charges against stamp duty for the land. The PGI had paid the stamp duty as per the amount but some officers were not clear about the total. That is why it took some time,” a senior official said.
Three departments — OPD, trauma and cancer centres — would be moved to the new building, according to the initial plan. A new learning centre would also come up.
Although PGI had asked for 100 acres of land, the institute was given 50 acres after deliberations. However, with two FAR (floor area ratio), it can complete100 acres of coverage in the given land.
“We were not in a position to that much space as the land is meant of other purposes too. We had, however, allowed them to construct buildings using 2 FAR. This means there will be 100 acres of coverage. There is around 400 acres of acquired land in the area, out of which around 60 acres was already given to the Chandigarh Police and other chunks are for other usages,” said a senior officer.
