Stamford unleashes new graduates in global market

A roundtable discussion

Stamford International University is focused on educational reform by enhancing its status as an industry-linked, truly international university cooperating with over 300 leading companies and enterprises, both locally and globally.

Tim Bulow, Chief Executive Officer of Laureate International Universities--Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam, hosted a round table discussion with industry partners to emphasize Stamford's commitment to achieve more by leveraging student success.

Tim Bulow from Laureate International Universities

"We evaluate students' employability outcomes each year," Bulow said. "The results from our most recent survey show that 74% of our graduates have a higher starting salary than the market average. More than 35% of graduates were offered jobs even before they graduated. We continue focusing our efforts to strengthen our industry engagement platform with our industry partners that allows us to be on the cutting edge of evolving market trends. We constantly strive to improve all aspects of our students' experience in response to our insights and learnings."

Stamford and industry partners

Over the past two years, Stamford International University has established an industry interaction programme which involves partnership network expansion, market trend insights exploration, and student expectation learning. Over 300 industry partners, including BMW Group Thailand, Unilever Thai Trading Limited, Thai Italian Chamber of Commerce, Cartoon Club Media , ECCO Thailand, Foodpanda, G-able, Holiday Inn, Hubvisor, Index Creative Village, Maybank Kim Eng, MCOT, Srithai Superware, SANET (Thailand), Impact Exhibition Management, L'Oreal Thailand, and many more, have contributed industry expertise and collaboration by offering internship programmes, real world project assignments, and modern world market overviews in their industries.

Krisda Utamote, Director Corporate Communications BMW Group Thailand noted that Stamford students reap experiences through a rich curriculum focusing on real life situations where multinational working culture is key.

"Students benefit with their language skills as well as understanding how to work in a diverse community. They also gain an industry outlook throughout their learning. As a partner, BMW Group Thailand supports learning by sharing. It embeds our ACES (Autonomous, Connectivity, Electric, Sharing services) vision through knowledge sharing where students gain insights into ever-changing market trends in the global automobile industry, in which we have expertise and experiences from BMW's worldwide operations."

A roundtable discussion

Narut Boonprasert, Talent Advisor, Unilever Thai Trading Limited and member of Stamford International University's Advisory Board, added: "The astonishing and jarring fact today is that organisations operate in a world replacing humans with AI technology. For example, Unilever also uses AI technology in recruitment and other functions. We strive to uphold core values for survival in a world where many industries will vanish. Today's labour market is seeking employees who are agile, tech savvy, have analytical skills and a business acumen competency. Candidates who can multitask and are flexible are also preferable."

The diversified culture at Stamford is not only based on having students from over 100 countries. The international community is further enriched by faculty members from 34 countries and by collaborations with partners from all over the world.

"With our internship programme, we carefully select partners to contribute their expertise by working together to deliver strategic training. We also provide students with activities leading to their anticipated goals. ‘Stamford Networking Night' is an event aimed at providing students with opportunities to build a network through internships and recruitment. For this year's event, we had participation from over 40 organisations, 70 professionals and 200 senior students to exchange business ideas, knowledge and contacts. This strengthens the Education-Industry Linkage pillar of the university's mission which is essential in building strong employability outcomes, along with other activities such as industry projects, co-developed courses and more," stated Sawitree Santipiriyapon, Stamford Director of Careers and Employability.

"Based on international culture, knowledge is key to successful job placement. Prospective candidates should be growing in an environment that encourages them to take initiative, collaborate, think critically, be open to new learning, and be able to step out of their comfort zone," said Michele Tomea, Secretary General, Thai Italian Chamber of Commerce. Some Thai and foreign Stamford students have interned at the Thai-Italian Chamber of Commerce, to support the TICC member companies in various businesses.

Stamford International University is part of the Laureate International Universities network with two campuses in Bangkok (Rama 9) and Hua Hin, and a learning center at Asoke (Exchange Tower). The university is known as a leading international private higher education institution in Thailand offering international, bilingual and Thai undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to Thai and international students.
