Stalker who threatened to stab and rape Dumbarton schoolgirl has sentencing deferred

The sentencing of a perverted stalker who threatened to stab, rape and attack a Dumbarton schoolgirl with acid has been deferred.

Twisted sex abuser Brendan Sweeney, 24, was due to be sentenced at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week but it has been delayed until May for reports.

The Lennox Herald previously told how Sweeney’s two-year hate campaign also saw him hound the girl’s parents and call her headteacher, pretending to be her dad.

Sweeney made contact with the youngster on Instagram when she was just 13 and met up with the Dumbarton schoolgirl three times.

When he showed signs of being controlling she tried to cut him off but his behaviour became more sinister.

He bombarded her parents and friends with messages, creating 70 fake social media profiles pretending to be her.

He also threatened to petrol bomb her home, kill her and himself, saying: “Since I can’t have you, no one can.”

During an appearance at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last month Sweeney, currently in custody at Low Moss jail, admitted kissing the schoolgirl, touching her sexually and carrying out a sex act as well as harassing and threatening his victim.
