A property tycoon has asked the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to be placed under witness protection in the wake of last month's fatal shooting of a former senior Songkhla police investigator.
Pinit Rujirawanich submitted the request to DSI chief Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang on Monday via the agency's deputy spokesman, Pol Lt Col Woranan Srilam.
Mr Pinit said he has felt unsafe since the death of Pol Capt Watcharin Benjathotsawat, a former deputy investigative superintendent at the Songkhla police headquarters in Hat Yai district.
He said Pol Capt Watcharin had given him legal advice in relation to 20 lawsuits brought against him by his former wife and other close aides.
The former investigator was killed in Songkhla's Muang district.
Mr Pinit said that an unidentified person has been stalking him on his way to appear in court.
"The stalker did not only follow me, but also my legal team and other employees," he said.
The property tycoon claims to have no conflict with anyone other than his ex-wife and a police colonel who were convicted of embezzlement, in relation to a parcel of land worth more than three million baht that had been jointly owned by him and his ex-wife.
Officers were investigating Mr Pinit's claim.
