Staggering Man City v Cardiff City odds that have shattered Premier League records

Cardiff City face Manchester City on Wednesday and are rated as long as 100-1 to win – a price never seen before in Premier League history.

It is a huge game for both sides, with Cardiff battling for top-flight survival and Pep Guardiola's men going head to head with Liverpool for the title.

Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock had quipped he could rest players in order to make sure they are fit for other matches they see as more winnable.

But the manager has stressed - to the relief of Reds fans - that he will field his strongest starting XI as possible at the Etihad this evening.

Nevertheless, the bookmakers have reacted by making Cardiff as long as 100/1 – more than twice the previous record which was Huddersfield Town at City last season,  but was just short of 50/1.

City’s price has also fallen and is now down to 1/25.

OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton said: "We really don’t see numbers like this very often in football games, but bookmakers have certainly taken Warnock’s comments seriously.

The two distinct ways Cardiff City can trouble Man City - and why they won't follow Swansea City's plan

"Such is City’s 1/25 that is a probability of over 96% probability, remarkable for a Premier League contest."

Man City v Cardiff Big Match Guide

Selected match odds:

Manchester City 1/25

Draw 16/1

Cardiff City 100/1

In Premier League terms, 100/1 is unheard of.  Leicester City were 5000/1 to win the Premier League, in terms of biggest football wins, outside of accumulators. This season’s big bet has been the quadruple – which City were 250/1 at the start of the season and are still firmly on to do and are as low as 9/2, lower in some places.

The previous longest shot in a football match many bookmakers consider was Luxembourg at France in 2017, when they managed to get a draw despite France being 1/125 – more than four times more likely than Man City are thought to be against Cardiff.  A draw was 55/1 which came in. Luxembourg were around 100/1 to win.
