A shocking 504 patients are waiting for beds in Irish hospitals this morning.
The worrying figures include 361 people waiting in emergency departments, while 143 are in wards elsewhere in the hospital.
University Hospital Limerick was the worst hit hospital yet again with 66, just days after they appealed to the public not to attend the Emergency Department “unless absolutely necessary”, due to ongoing patient overcrowding at the hospital.
Next was University Hospital Galway with 55 patients without a bed, followed by University Hospital Waterford which had 43.
The staggering statistics, which are down from 546 yesterday, are counted by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation each morning.
The patients in the reports are often being treated on trolleys in corridors, but they may also be on chairs, in waiting rooms, or simply wherever there’s space.
