Stag party embarks on epic road trip from Poland after losing passport

Members of a stag party undertook an epic 16-hour road trip from Poland after one of the group forgot his passport.

Stephen Currie realised he had left his passport in Edinburgh when they arrived in Krakow on Friday (September 27).

Not wanting to throw David Mair's stag do further into chaos, Stephen and two of his pals decided to buy a car for 1200 Zloty – around £250 – so they could get home.

He said he was initially let into Poland by passport control officials using a picture of his ID and a waiver form, Daily Record reports.

Stephen, 33, said: "The flight was at about 10am and we had been at one of our pals drinking from the night before.

"Lets just say I had a few drinks and was a bit worse for wear.

"I fell asleep on the plane and when I woke up I realised I didn't have my passport. I was panicking that I wasn't going to be allowed into the country.

"Thankfully after some waiting about I was allowed to enter. They got David's dad to sign a waiver form and I showed them a picture of my ID."

After realising he'd wouldn't be able to go to the British Embassy until next Wednesday, Stephen and his friends decided to buy a car to make the long journey home.

After using Google Translator to pick up an old Vectra on Facebook and sorting insurance, they parked their new car for a few days and enjoyed the rest of the trip.

The lads then begin their epic trip back on Sunday, with three of them driving for 16 hours through Europe until they reached a ferry in Callais.

Stephen was allowed on the ferry using his driver's license after telling security what had happened.

Documenting their full journey on social media, Stephen posted: “Five hours from home. Drove 13 and a half hours straight yesterday.

"There ain’t no stopping us boys. Drove from Poland to Germany to Holland to Belgium to France. Ferry across the water and boom, homeward bound!”

Summing up the experience, he said: "It was mental. It could only have happened to me. It's gave us all a good laugh.

"I'll definitely not forget this in a hurry. "
