Stag dos account for nearly 50% of flights taken by young British men in 2019

Nearly half of flights taken by British men aged 20-45 were for stag dos, in 2019.

Hen dos were just as prominent, being the reason why a third of women of the same age group opted to fly.

Environmental firm Hubbub polled 2,000 young adults in the UK on their travel habits as part of its Why Wing It campaign, unveiling the heavy influence stag dos and hen dos are having on Brits' travel habits.

Despite stag and hen parties accounting for such a high number of flights taken, it turns out that young adults may be opting for these breaks somewhat begrudgingly.

In fact, the research showed that over half of those surveyed felt that going abroad was often too long, expensive and involving excessive travel.

Not surprising when you consider that flying abroad led to average spends of £421 per person, compared to £261 for a UK getaway.

In fact, in some instances going on a stag or hen do abroad has been known to set holidaymakers back up to £1,000.

It's therefore no surprise that 60 per cent of Brits admitted they'd prefer a UK-based do, predominantly because it was cheaper and easier to get to.

(Not to mention there are some brilliant UK destinations for stag and hen dos).

Of course, these flights are also having a serious impact on the environment.

Hubbub found that simply by choosing Brighton over Barcelona, a group of 10 hen or stag do travellers from London could reduce their carbon emissions by 98 per cent.

According to the company, that's the same as one person in the group opting to go vegan for 2.2 years, or ditching driving a car for 1.4 years.
