A special Staffordshire bull terrier has been honoured with a military-style funeral in front of 100 mourners.
Colour Sergeant Watchman V, also known as Somme, was the mascot dog of Staffordshire Regimental Association for 13 long years.
Carried by soldier pallbearers, Colour entered Burton Town Hall today as crowds watched on from the roadside.
A spokesperson said on Facebook : "It was calm, it was still, we moved slowly and with dignity. Carried high by you two-legger Uncles, Dad and I following behind.
"We have laid you to rest now Colour. Sleep well - sleep deeply, take that rest that in life you never did.
"Stand easy Colour, your firm approach would always strike hard into the heart's of us all. A truly magnificent legacy, which I am proud to walk in the shadow of."
Colour's family have taken "great comfort" in the words shared by their brilliant dog's online followers - and have expressed their gratitude for the kindness shown towards them.
The tradition of having a Staffordshire bull terrier as a regimental mascot began back in 1882.
But, it wasn't until after World War Two when the first official Watchman was presented to the 6th Battalion the North Staffordshire Regiment.
Colour is said to have been the firth mascot of Staffordshire Regimental Association since 1949 - and gained a long list of achievements during his service.
These include having two streets in the country named after him, and being given freedom of towns including Newcastle and Tamworth.
He attended just under 1,000 events and met nearly all the Royal Family - including the late Duke of Edinburgh, who he "bowed" to.
Colour, who has been buried in gardens near Burton Town Hall, has received more than 500 tributes on his Facebook page.
