Staff threatened with weapon as robber targets Hamilton shop

Police are appealing for witnesses following a third recent robbery at a Hillhouse shop.

McColl’s Premier store on Fleming Way, Hamilton, was targeted just after 1pm today (Monday) when a man entered the shop and threatened staff with a weapon.

He then made off with a quantity of booze and cash.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called around 1.20pm on Monday, February 24, to the McColl’s store on Fleming Way, Hamilton, following reports of a man threatening staff with a weapon and stealing a quantity of cash and alcohol.

“Enquiries are at an early stage, although we are following a positive line of enquiry.

“Nobody was injured as a result of the incident.

“Anyone who has information should contact Police on 101, quoting incident 1518 of 24 February. Alternatively if you wish to give information anonymously, please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

The shop was previously targeted twice within two days back in November last year, leaving staff terrified.

At the time, support and extra security advice were provided to staff and police patrols were increased in the area.
