Staff threatened with baseball bat during shop robbery in Swansea

A masked man threatened shop staff with a baseball bat during a robbery in Swansea.

The man confronted workers at the Mopra Express in Carmarthen Road at Fforestfach Cross at around 11pm on Wednesday, May 6.

A shop spokesman said: "He came in all dressed in black and had a backpack-type bag with him.

"He immediately told us to open the till and then to put money his bag. You sometimes get customers making jokes like that and I thought he was joking at first.

"He saw me trying to use my mobile phone and told me he would hit me if I didn't stop using it.

"My wife hit him a couple of times with a stick as he was leaving and I ran after him shouting for help.

"He ran across the road and went down a lane on the other side. I was still shaking for a couple of hours afterwards.

"This area is quite a safe place but this took things to a different level."

The man was wearing gloves, a face mask, dark trousers, and a dark long-sleeved top, and was also carrying a black and white JD Sports bag.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: “We are appealing for information after a robbery at Mopra Express, Carmarthen Road, Swansea.

“Anyone with information should contact 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting occurrence 2000155970."
