Staff threatened during Ayrshire petrol station robbery as police launch witness appeal

Staff at a petrol station were threatened during a robbery early this morning.

A man walked into Mauchline's Thames Petrol Station in Earl Grey Street at around 5.55am.

He threatened members of staff on duty before making off with a haul of cigarettes valued at £550.

Kilmarnock police are investigating and launched an appeal for information this afternoon.

The suspect is described as white, around 5ft 6in tall and spoke with a local accent.

He was wearing a grey hooded top with the hood up, a blue check scarf which was pulled up leaving only his eyes visible, a black jacket, blue jeans and white trainers.

Detective Constable Robert Blackley said: “We are appealing for anyone with information that might be able to assist with our enquiries to contact us.”

Police Scotland can be contacted on the non-emergency 101 number, quoting incident 0438 of 21 February.

Alternatively, information can be given to Crimestoppers anonymously by contacting 0800 555111.
