Staff member at RCT Council believe to have died with coronavirus

A member of staff at Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is believed to have died with coronavirus, the council leader has said.

Councillor Andrew Morgan told full council on Wednesday, September 23, that it appeared the death was linked to Covid-19.

It comes as RCT continues to be under local lockdown imposed by the Welsh Government because of a recent spike in cases.

On September 23, there were 93 new cases in RCT and on the same day, Public Health Wales announced there were 389 new cases in Wales and two confirmed deaths.

Cllr Morgan said it would not be appropriate to share any further details about the member of staff.

He said to councillors: “I am sure we will all have experienced loss or hurt in respect of the virus and it is with sadness that I have to advise members that recently a member of our council staff has sadly passed away.

“The illness and subsequent death of the staff member happened very quickly and it would appear that their death is linked to the virus.

“Clearly it would not be appropriate for me to share any further details of the member of staff but I am sure that our collective thoughts and prayers will be with the family at this difficult time.”
