Staff left shaken after robbery at Uddingston newsagents

Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery at an Uddingston newsagents over the weekend.

Staff within the McColl’s shop on Main Street were left extremely shaken following the incident that took place at around 5.40pm on Saturday, January 16.

Officers say an unidentified man entered the shop before threatening staff and making off with a three-figure sum of cash.

The man, who is described as being around 6ft tall and of medium build, did not brandish a weapon and no one was harmed during the robbery.

He was wearing a black beanie hat, a face mask, a puffy black jacket and blue jeans. He spoke with a local accent.

The suspect was last seen heading north on Uddingston Main Street.

Detective Constable Andrew Fearnside of Lanarkshire CID said: “Nobody was injured in this incident but the staff involved were shaken by their experience.

“Our enquiries are ongoing into this incident and we would urge anyone with information to get in touch, especially anyone who may have been in the shop at the time of the robbery”.

“We would be particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in Uddingston town centre around that time on Saturday and saw anything suspicious.

“We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage or private CCTV.

“You can get in touch by calling Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 2714 of January 16, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
